New Get Set Resources to Celebrate the Winter Games 2010
In February and March 2010, Vancouver will host the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games. The London 2012 Education Team are keen for schools, colleges and educators around the country to make the most of this moment and take advantage of brand new free resources that have been launched to help them and their students make the most of the Winter Games.

Bishop Burton has become the first college in the East Riding to be officially recognised as an Olympic education partner after having an application approved by the London 2012 Get Set Network.

WorldSkills London 2011 – Get Involved!
WorldSkills London 2011 is taking place between 5-8 October 2011 at ExCeL in London’s docklands. The four day event will bring together an estimated 1,200 competitors from 50 countries/regions to compete in 45 skills ranging from bricklaying to restaurant services and landscape gardening to robotics.

Sheffield Hallam University Launches Unique Olympic Modules
Sheffield Hallam University has launched a unique set of modules in partnership with London 2012 making it the only university in the UK to officially partner the Games in this way. The project provides students studying sport at Sheffield Hallam with the skills to work in the sports media industry.

The 3rd of December marked 1,000 days to go until the start of the London 2012 Paralympic Games in London. Yorkshire as a region is very supportive of the Paralympics and this was reflected in the number of events organised to celebrate the day.

University of Leeds Student and Paralympian Breaks Two World Records!
Claire Cashmore, a 2nd year Linguistics student at the University of Leeds, marked the 1,000 day Paralympics in London milestone in fine style with two gold medals in new world record times on a fantastic final day of competition at the IPC World Short-Course Swimming Championships in Rio.

University of Leeds presents a series of free lectures open to all. Speakers include Steve Cram MBE, Wilben Short (Head of Transport, London 2012) and Tessa Gordziejko (Creative Programmer - London 2012 Cultural Olympiad). The series will reflect on the Olympic and Paralympic Movements, previous Games and look forward to the London 2012. Venues, timetable and full details about all lectures at www.leeds.ac.uk/olympics

“TRANSFORMING SKILLS: Professional Development For Museum Staff & Volunteers” - an opportunity to discuss Museum and Gallery professional development provision with museum colleagues, museum studies tutors, and museum and gallery volunteers from across the region. Free with buffet lunch provided. 10.30 – 4.15 The Leeds Discovery Centre – Education Room. The deadline for bookings for this event is Monday 1st February. 12th February – 21st March 2010 (Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games)

As we gear up for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games in this Year of Engagement, we are also looking eagerly across the Atlantic to Vancouver, where the Olympic Cauldron will be lit on the 12th of February to open the XXI Winter Olympic Games. Between the 12th and 28th of February, competitors from almost 100 different nations will take part in events spread across 15 sports. Then, after the excitement of the Winter Olympics, the X Winter Paralympic Games begin on the 12th of March! In preparation for the Vancouver Games, London 2012’s Get Set programme has prepared a set of learning resources to help bring the Olympic and Paralympic values into schools. Town & Gown Public Lecture Series, 6:30pm Fountains Lecture Theatre, York St John University. Mr Don Stewart, Project Director, Yorkshire Gold. "The Value of London 2012 to Yorkshire". This lecture focuses on how Yorkshire Gold is ensuring the people, communities and businesses of Yorkshire and Humber benefit commercially, socially, culturally and in every other possible way from the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games. This is executed through 5 main strands of the strategy and with our 5 partners – Sports with Sport England, Communities with LGYH, Culture with the Arts Council, Tourism with Welcome to Yorkshire and Business with Yorkshire Forward. Refreshments will be available prior to and following the lecture, we would be pleased if you can join us. The Town & Gown Public Lecture series is free of charge and open to all. 28th June – 2nd July

Lloyds TSB National School Sport week uses the power of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games to inspire more young people to take part in and understand the value of sport. In 2010 it will take place between 28 June and 2 July. In 2009 more than 10,000 schools and 3 million children took part. Schools organised their own Opening and Closing Ceremonies, Torch Relays, inter and intra school competitions, pupils made Sports Pledges to take part in more sport and to try something new. Whether your school took part in 2009 or not, you’ll need to register here for 2010 to receive free resources to help fulfil your objectives for PE and school sport. Register by Friday 5th February and you will be entered into a free prize draw to win a sporting master class from an Olympic or Paralympic hero during the week. www.schoolsportweek.org
