SEE for the 2012 Games Core Group

E-mail Print PDF

What is the Yorkshire and Humber ‘SEE for the 2012 Games’ Core Group?

The hosting of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in London in 2012 offers our region opportunities to engage and inspire people in a range of different ways. The Yorkshire Gold strategy outlines five golden opportunities for our region to maximise these benefits in relation to: Sport and Physical Activity; Business; Tourism; Community; and Culture.

Against each of these ‘golden opportunities’ a series of 10 legacies and 15 activities has been proposed, and underpinning the delivery of many of these ambitions is the need to invest in skills, employment and education opportunities targeted to meet regional priorities and make the most of the opportunities afforded by the 2012 Games.

The SEE for the 2012 Games Core Group has therefore been set up as a multi agency group to ensure appropriate partnerships, resources and talents are in place to help ensure there is a lasting legacy of skills, employment and educational opportunities in Yorkshire and the Humber as a result of the Olympic Games, Paralympic Games and Cultural Olympiad. The Core Group has dynamic relationships with all other Yorkshire Gold structures, committees and sub-groups and is a first point of contact for any skills, employment or education partner in the Yorkshire and Humber region wishing to get involved in 2012. It is a strategic body, however, during 2009 and 2010 a range of smaller working groups are being formed to lead on specific areas of action – these are called signature projects and you may wish to learn more about these areas of activity in case your organisation would like to be involved in these.

Core Group Members

The SEE for the 2012 Games Core Group was set up in November 2007 and is chaired by Sharon Pickering, Director of the Regional Skills Partnership. Core Group membership continually evolves and a list of current members can be found by clicking here.

The Terms of Reference for the Core Group 2009-2010 can be found by clicking here.

The SEE for the 2012 Games Core Group has formulated a ’10 Point Plan’ in its ‘Framework for Action 2008-2016’. This Framework for Action was compiled over a 9-month period with the help of over 175 partners in the region, and was formally launched on the 24th of April 2008. The Group wishes to encourage partners to use the Framework where possible when thinking about how their organisation wishes to get involved in creating a 2012 legacy for our region – amongst learners, non-learners, businesses, communities, and people of all age, ability and background. The Framework does not prescribe what to do, rather suggests where we might work together in our region to have more impact than working in isolation from one another.

Please see ‘Documents’ to download the Framework for Action and view the Framework Priorities.

Core Group Values

Engagement—engaging people across the region in a range of activities to improve their skills and employability

Added Value—using the Olympics and Paralympics to add real value to existing work and plans; and
