World Skills

E-mail Print PDF

Vocational skills competitions are a useful way in which we can connect with the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games as there are so many parallels....the celebration of excellence and fair play; the spirit of competition; the hours of training that ultimately might lead to a gold, silver or bronze medal; the buzz of being amongst the best in the world in your chosen field of expertise.

What are we doing in Yorkshire?

A small working group has been formed to develop an action plan for 2009 and 2010 maximising the way in which we can use London 2012 and WorldSkills 2011 to raise awareness of the value of vocational skills excellence and competitions in our region. The action plan will explore opportunities such as:

  • Publicising the stories about our ‘skills heroes’ and the way in which they can act as role models to other young learners in our region
  • skills competitors and training managers that will be involved in
WorldSkills 2009 in Calgary and WorldSkills 2011 in London
  • Looking at whether we need any new skills competitions in our region to celebrate excellence
  • Looking at ways in which we can help develop the skills not only of competitors but the tutors and teachers who coach them for competitions

The action plan is provided below. We will be excited to hear from you if you have ideas for how to take this forward, particularly if you think your organisation can help deliver exciting activity in your local area.
